Students are our future, in order to give them the taste of suffrage and democratic government, election process was conducted for class 7.

Election commission of Udgam was formed and also voters’ cards were issued to all students along with giving them knowledge of its importance.

Political parties and leaders tried to influence the voters through campaigning and promises.

Political parties put their party manifestos, approved by Election commission and inspirational speeches were given by the candidates. The supporters were also witnessed in the campus.

Finally voters cast their precious votes through secret ballot.

It was a first-hand experience for the students they learnt everything about our democratic political system. 

The students of Class 6 created fabulous magazines using 100% Gujarati language. Aptly titled UDGAM SAPTAHIK, the magazines that the students made reflect their observation, creativity and flair for their mother tongue. The enthusiasm and zeal shines through in every page of work they have done. This was an endeavour by the teacher to instil a love for the Gujarati language and was done as a project in the 3^rd language class. 

Interclass Debate competition was organised  for class 6^th. Topic was ‘We do not need laws and Rules in our Lives’.

Students were selected on the basis of their performance in preliminary round which was conducted earlier in the class and students were selected for the final round on the basis of their presentation skills.

The confidence level of students proved the hard work and preparation put in.

 It was a difficult time for the judges to decide the winners as all the participants spoke with great zeal. As it was a competition, finally, the First position was bagged by  Sanjana Dalal of 6-D.

 The Second position was shared between Harshini Shah of 6-C and Rutvi  Shah of 6-C.

Again there was a tie for the third position between  Harshal Oza of 6-E and Ria Shah of 6-C.

All the students were awarded with the certificates.

An elocution competition was held among students of Class 9. The topics were varied with most children speaking at length on existing situations and the changes they would like to make. The participants spoke well and gave realistic solutions to problems in today’s scenario.

The first position was shared by Bhavnis Kaur Chhabda and Sanjana Pulak Mukherjee. Shreeja Karnav Desai stood second and on the third position were Dhanyata Manav Mehta and Gurleenkaur Tajendra Nanda.

All the participants were given certificates.

An Elocution competition was held among the students of Class 10. The children spoke on varied topics like truthfulness, corruption, saving the girl child, facebook, involvement in social service among others. The participants were eloquent and spoke with a lot of conviction on their chosen topic. They identified problems and offered solutions that were convincing besides being enlightening. It was a delight to hear the young minds talk at length on views that were hitherto hidden.

As the students performed extremely well there was a tie for first and third position. Here are the results:

Alisha Akhani and Shanay Shah shared the first position.

Second position was bagged by Priyanshi Brahmbhatt.

On the third position were Dhagash Shah and Bhakti Shah.

All participants were given certificates. 

Class 6 students had a class activity on ‘Components of Food’. They presented and described different food items, the ingredients, components and also the nutritive value of particular food items.

The activity helped the students to get a hands on experience of the kitchen in their class and also imbibed the importance of a ‘balanced diet’.

An Activity on Speaking Skills in Hindi was conducted in Class IX D.

The students were asked to converse on two recent topics – 1. Uttarakhand ki Tabaahi  and 2. Telegraph Service Tujhe Salaam

The enlightening conversation which had students role playing, debating and sharing matured (and a few innocent views) was worth listening to indeed.

This helped to hone their speaking skills in Hindi while sharpening their knowledge about the latest issues.

One more feather was added to the techno savvy  hat of USFC. Today a new Hi-Tech computer Lab was started.

The Lab has the capacity of 40 students. It is spacious as the computers installed are “All In One Desktops”, which makes the lab welcoming and accommodating. 

This initiative will help foster the teaching – learning of Computer as a subject and necessity in today’s fast moving world.

A quiz was organised by Derek O’ Brien’s group in school today. The students of Classes 6^th, 7^th, 8^th and 9^th participated in this quiz programme. There were 4 teams comprising.

The quiz was held in 5 rounds – Life Skills, Direct Questions, Visual, Memory and Rapid Fire.

The questions were varied and tested the application of logic, common sense, knowledge, memory and mental agility.

Team A emerged as the winners in a competition that was interesting and nail-biting till the end.

Even the audience had a fair share of questions which they answered enthusiastically. 

Udgam School has been consistently conducting  the Olympiad Exams in the school for Cyber, Science, Mathematics and English since years.

During the last academic year also the same were held through out the year witnessing overwhelming participation and excellent performances from the students. 

As Shantanu Patel of class 11 stood 1^st in 6^th IMO, he received a gold medal and a cheque of Rs. 5000/- for his outstanding performance.

Shanay Shah of class 4 received a silver medal for acquiring 2^nd position in 3^rd IEO.

All the above students received a certificate, a DVD of Encyclopedia and yearly subscription of BBC knowledge magazine.

In 6^th IMO in the year 2012-13, 765 students participated and performed well, so Mrs. Dhanya Ramachandran being the IMO coordinator of the school received a certificate, a trophy, cheque of Rs.5000/- , a DVD of Encyclopedia and subscription of BBC knowledge magazine.
